‘BIKE WEEK’ RIDE FROM HUSKISSON TO VINCENTIA THIS SUNDAY

Sunday, 14th September, Shoalhaven Bicycle User Group (SBUG) will be riding Huskisson to Vincentia for ‘BIKE WEEK’, starting at 9:00am from the Huskisson Hotel car park. 12 km return / Slow pace / Easy ride / Some Traffic / Uses Off-road Shared Cyclepaths. An easy meander along the shared cyclepath and some local roads beside the fabulous Jervis Bay. For those wanting a longer ride of about 34kms, start at 8:30am from Falls Creek Rural Fire Station. Last Sunday 5 riders enjoyed easy ride to Greenwell Point for a Fish & Chips lunch. Some family members and friends joined the group for lunch before the riders returned to Nowra. The weather was cool and calm, excellent conditions for a leisurely ride. Thanks again to Menno for leading the ride.

NEW SBUG EXECUTIVE ELECTED

The Annual General Meeting of the Shoalhaven Bicycle User Group saw a number of changes to the executive committee. The new executive is;

  • President – Mel Gillott
  • Vice President – Bob Lavender
  • Ride Coordinator – Peter Hewlett
  • Treasurer – Judi Puru
  • Minutes Secretary – Kathy Beckenham
  • Membership Secretary – Wayne Beckenham
  • Correspondence Secretary – Geoff Vercoe
  • Social Secretary – Paul Taylor
  • Publicity Officer – Wayne Beckenham

At the conclusion of the meeting, past president, Jim Florence and past publicity officer, Jan Furyk were thanked by the meeting for their many years of dedicated service to SBUG. Jim had served as an executive members for the past 17 years, while Jan had done a sterling job as publicity officer for the past 8 years. Judi Puru also stood done from the position of ride coordinator after many years of coordinating our ride program. Judi will be staying on the the executive in the treasurers position. All SBUG mebers welcome Mel, Peter, Paul and Geoff to the executive and it is certain that their fresh ideas will lead to group’s continuing success for many years to come.
SBUG RIDES THIS WEEK INCLUDE:

THURSDAY – MIDWEEK MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE: 40 km / Moderate pace / Uses Off-road Cyclepaths / Uses On-road Cycleways / Sealed and Unsealed Roads. Next Thursday’s mountain bike ride will commence at Palm Beach, Sanctuary Point at 9:00am. The ride will skirt around the perimeter of St Georges Basin to Basin View and Wandandian Creek. SATURDAY – FAST TRAINING RIDE TO GREENWELL POINT, RETURN; 40 km / Fast pace / for experienced cyclists. Starts at 7:00am from the Nowra Visitors Centre, Pleasant Way, Nowra (Not an official BUG ride). The fast group usually ride as a rotating peloton. Contact: Rod 0428 211 487

SATURDAY – NOWRA TO GREENWELL POINT, RETURN; 40 km / Moderate pace / Medium difficulty / Some Traffic / The ride starts at 8:00am from the Nowra Visitors Centre, Pleasant Way, Nowra. Contact: Peter (02) 4446 0119

SATURDAY MORNING MEANDER: 25 km / Slow pace / Easy / Some traffic / Starts at 8:00am from the Nowra Visitors Centre, Pleasant Way, Nowra. The ride route varies week to week but is always within the Nowra area. Contact: Peter (02) 4446 0119.

Enjoy coffee and a chat at a local Cafe in Nowra after the Saturday rides. All new and experienced cyclists welcome.

MONDAY – NOWRA TO BERRY, RETURN; 50 km / Moderate pace / Some traffic. Starts at 9:00am from Nowra Visitors Centre, Pleasant Way, Nowra. A medium ride with a few small hills. Great scenery. Suitable for riders looking for a medium challenge. Always the option to take the train back. Coffee at a Cafe in Berry. Contact: Peter (02) 4446 0119.

WEDNESDAY – NOWRA TO COMERONG ISLAND FERRY, RETURN; 25 km return / Slow pace / Easy / Flat terrain / Some traffic / Suitable for beginners. Starts at 8:00am from Nowra Visitors Centre, Pleasant Way, Nowra. Contact Jim (02) 4423 2943.
