Barefoot Bowls a Great Success!

Last Sunday eight Shoalhaven Bicycle User Group cyclists had a leisurely, ride around Culburra Beach and Orient Point. The group met at the Culburra Shopping Centre and rode on local streets and tracks around the perimeter of Culburra and Orient Point with stops at the Orient Point and Crookhaven Heads boat ramps, Crookhaven Lighthouse, Culburra Beach, Penguin Head and Lake Wollumboola before returning to the Culburra shops. The morning was warm with little breeze. The riders concluded their ride with refreshments at a Café in Culburra.

Last Thursdays Midweek Mountain Bike ride was attended by thirteen riders who enjoyed a mostly bush ride through the Woollamia Nature Reserve and Jervis Bay National Park to Vincentia. After a coffee break in Vincentia the group returned via the shared cycleway through Huskisson and Woollamia. It was a beautiful clear, sunny morning, making for excellent views of Jervis Bay on the return journey. Another bush track adventure enjoyed by all.

On Sunday March 1, SBUG had another social function, this time at the Bomaderry Bowling Club. Our Barefoot Bowls evening gave members, partners and friends an opportunity to demonstrate another of their sporting abilities. Some interesting techniques were observed and lots of fun resulted. Many thanks to our coach and chefs Dan, Charlie and Wendy. A particularly BIG thank you to Paul Taylor for organising Barefoot Bowls at the BBC!

Paul Taylor is the SBUG Social Organiser. Paul is currently very busy organising tickets to the “Roy Orbison Show” and the “ABBA Show” at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre. If you are interested in joining SBUG members to see this show you should contact Paul at wollemigrove@bigpond.com

The Monday ride to Berry now features a new coffee venue. SBUG rider, their friends and Monday morning coffee ‘tragics’ are now enjoying their coffee at the “BOOK CAFE”. The best way to access the Book cafe is via the IGA carpark. If you would like to join the riders for coffee on a Monday morning, you should arrive at the cafe between 9.15 and 9.45am.

SBUG membership now stands at 60 members. It is great to see new members on rides and I know that existing members make new members feel very welcome.

SBUG President, Mel Gillot, would like to remind all members that the position of Correspondence Secretary is still vacant. The Correspondence Secretary’s role is to send and receive correspondence for the Shoalhaven Bicycle User Group and to work with other members of the executive to produce correspondence of interest to SBUG and its membership. Mel stated, “The role of Correspondence Secretary is not an difficult one. This position would give  a person a good understanding of all aspects of the SBUG organisation. If there are any members who might be interested in this position they should contact me for a chat”.
