Shoalhaven Bike Plan

In 2012 the Shoalhaven Bicycle User Group made representation to Shoalhaven City Council to develop a new and more appropriate Bike Plan for the Shoalhaven. At that time we argued that a new plan was needed to help create a safe and accessible bike route network across the Shoalhaven. As a result of this representation, Council developed the Shoalhaven Bike Plan Working Party which first met in September 2012. This group was chaired by James Harris from the Shoalhaven City Council and it comprised of council staff, and representatives from the Shoalhaven Bicycle User Group, the Jervis Bay Triathlon Club, Nowra Velo Club, Milton/Ulladulla MTB Club, Southern Shoalhaven Business Chamber and four community members with an interest in cycling.

During 2012/2013, the Working Party held many meetings before presenting a Draft Shoalhaven Bike Plan to Council for public exhibition and comment. At the Council meeting held on Tuesday 17 December 2013 Council considered the draft plan and the Public Exhibition Report and resolved to:

  • Adopt the draft Shoalhaven Bike Plan as publicly exhibited with the recommended changes as detailed in the report.
  • Write to all groups/persons that made a submission to the draft Shoalhaven Bike Plan, to thank them for their contribution.
  • Consider funding the Shoalhaven Bike Plan’s priority projects in the upcoming Delivery Program and Operation Plans, and available grant programs.
  • Establish a cycling committee to annually review the Bike Plan priority projects and recommend to Council the annual works program.
